Description

Ischemic stroke is an acute neurological disease caused by vascular occlusion. It is one of the leading causes of death and disability worldwide and is caused by a combination of environmental and genetic factors. Latest in the wake of the SARS-COV-2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus 2) pandemic, COVID-19 disease, named as Corona Virus Infectious Disease-19 by World Health Organization was involved in the development of this condition. Several factors might explain the association of the COVID-19 disease and increased acute ischemic stroke risk. Meanwhile, previous studies reported that D-dimer may be common causative factors for COVID-19 and acute ischemic stroke but there is still no clear evidence for an association between D-dimer, COVID-19 disease and acute ischemic stroke. I performed a subgroup analysis based on the level of D-dimer and the possible association of the level of D-dimer with the appearance of the two diseases to further understand the importance of high level of D-dimer.
