Description

This well researched and evidence-packed book fills a gap in the history of Restitution of African heritage in the 21st Century. Through its pages, the researcher unpacks the many underlying layers that inform realities around restitution which Africans go through in seeking the return of their looted or illegally dispossessed possessions from the West. The researcher makes significant contribution to the quest by Africans to document and share their experiences in order to counter or complement Western narratives that had been judged to be largely biased and full of prejudices against Africa, embedded with meta-narratives that undermind African epistemic systems. By documenting the Ngonnso restitution journey from the Nso Fondom in Cameroon, the author offers African communities seeking or intending to engage in restitution the opportunity to learn from the shared experiences of the Nso Community, whose experiences are representative of the African saga in this endeavour. This work effectively complements the digital project “Open Restitution Africa” where Bulami served as case study researcher in 2023-24.
