Today, both print and digital text coexist in a fundamental way, and it is possible to achieve harmony between the two formats because the meaning and integrity of the text is maintained regardless of the medium. The age of text brings challenges to literacy in both digital and analog forms, and interaction between readers and writers remains crucial in different contexts and for different purposes. New presentations of text add to the traditional challenges in literacy and education, so that reading on paper and on screen demand special attention in the educational environment.
New technologies offer opportunities to transform the role of the teacher and foster writing-centered pedagogical approaches, which in turn foster more effective reading comprehension and writing proficiency, as well as greater interaction with the environment. It is important to understand how to teach, learn and evaluate in virtual environments, bearing in mind their challenges and benefits, in order to take advantage of their capacity to create an inclusive community that integrates time, space and cultures, and enriches the learning process without losing sight of the particularities of each participant.
