Rev Fr Romanus Ugoh PhD, in this masterpiece, makes a laudable contribution to the philosophical debate on what constitutes human happiness. He reviews a number of philosophical literatures and traditions on human happiness and concludes that most philosophers have not addressed this concept of happiness properly. Instead of presenting the ultimate good as the gaol of human happiness, they present partial good. The result is a dysfunctional notion of happiness that affects society adversely. He believes that Thomas Aquinas’ Philosophy of happiness is more germane to the question of what constitutes human happiness. For him, Aquinas’ theory of happiness offers a classic and comprehensive view of happiness that is capable of restoring order to the human person by leading him to the universal truth and the universal good which is God.
