Assessment Metamorphosis: An Educational Case for Contemporary Society

The manuscript explores the possible evolution of educational assessment through the lens of Fractal Semiotic Dialecticism (FSD) and the implementation of sandbox-style learning environments. FSD is a philosophical framework that challenges the coherence of hegemonic assessment models-particularly Western formative and summative assessments that have dominated educational practices since the late 1930s. It is rooted in assessment philosophy, practical philosophy, sociocultural theories, and critical literacy. Moreover, it advocates for a transition away from standardized assessment methods toward a dynamic, multidimensional approach that fosters learner agency, creativity, and critical thinking.
By reinterpreting assessment as a ‘cultural kaleidoscope’, the intersection of organic condition and praxis, the study calls for new axiological frameworks that align with contemporary language ecologies. This shift requires reconceptualizing instructional guidelines and replacing rubrics with more flexible assessment grids.
