Description

Malaria is a public health problem and Twenty-five million pregnancy associated malaria (PAM) cases account for over 10,000 maternal and 200,000 neonatal deaths per year (WHO, 2009). In this study it was found out that: currently used medications do not always clear peripheral or placental infections, past and existing ailments are enhancing factors to PAM, the myth that malaria is caused by witches is significant. For recommendations, new antimalarial drug combinations that can be administered in the first trimester need to be evaluated in future clinical trials, future studies to explore the use of effective antimalarials coupled with intermittent preventive treatment (IPTp) may be beneficial and there is need for future trials of nutrient supplementations, or choosing a trial site in a lower transmission setting where IPTp is not a first line policy.
