This brief study situates irregular migration in historical context to the early 1950s when it was fashionable for Gambian youths to escape poverty and colonial oppression by stowing away to the UK aboard merchant ships docked in Bathurst, Dakar or Kuntaur ports. It seek to explain that since irregular migration is not new, the answers cannot be new; history should be utilized to help policy makers forge out answers annealed in proper historical contexts.
