Description

Georgia is a country with almost four million people, surrounded by four neighbors and the Black Sea in the South Caucasus Region. Georgia was an attractive destination for Western organizations from the very beginning of the collapse of the USSR in 1991. On the other side, Georgia tried to get closer to the Western bloc. The Rose Revolution in this country in 2003 was the most significant reason for the claim. This country could obtain the prerequisites of the EU and NATO to achieve the membership of these two organizations as an Eastern European state. Its location between the Caspian Sea and the Black Sea, was its Geopolitical superiority since it could open the region to new regional energy projects such as BTC. With the occurrence of the Georgian-Russian war in August 2008, the whole Geopolitics equation changed for Georgia and she lost 20% of her territory. This loss interrupted Georgia’s membership in NATO and the EU. This research is based on the Grand Chessboard Doctrine by Brzezinski and marks the geopolitical factors and the background of the current status of Georgia’s foreign policy.
