Women in India from ancient to modern times, especially before 1991, suffered from many disadvantages, prejudices, outdated customs and practices, gender inequality, etc. However, since Indian government liberalized and restructured its economy in 1991, it has passed various women empowerment programmes. As a result, the role and status of women in family and society has been improved significantly.
The book titled ‘The role and decision-making power of working women in families in New Delhi (India) in the 1991-2022 period’ focuses on the changes in the role and status of employed women in New Delhi, India. The book is a result of the research paper using both quantitative and qualitative methods conducted from February to December 2023 on 366 women working in both public and private sectors in New Delhi, India.
The structure of the book is divided into seven sections including introduction, literature review, the role of women in Delhi before economic reforms in 1991, methodology, assessment, key drivers of changes in the role of women in New Delhi, and conclusion. The book contributes to explaining the changes in Indian family and society in India in the modern times.
