Description

One of the fundamental yet plausible questions on the lips of many is centred around the myriad of problems plaguing the African continent especially Nigeria ranging from unemployment, growing poverty, dearth of infrastructure, rule of law, terrorism and of late banditry that have plunged Nigeria into a protracted season of crisis of governance. These problems can be attributed to one factor namely; the failure of leadership. the leadership crisis confronting Nigeria is not unique to Nigeria, but while many countries have tried to surmount theirs, Nigeria continues to pay lip service to its own to the extent the Nigerian state is now more closer to a failed state than before. In the face of ‘state capture’ by the elites, some liberals in Nigeria have called for the renegotiation of the union while radicals believe in the outright dissolution of the federation given the pauperization and dehumanization as well as crass exploitation of the populace by successive regimes. It is these issues Fela’s music interrogate.
