Description

The present study aims to investigate and present the phenomenon of femicide in Greece, focusing particularly on its impact on the families of the victims- which are completely absent from the Greek relevant bibliography- through the narration of the experiences of five people associated with cases of murdered women, either as members of their families either as personnel of the law enforcement authorities who have been involved in the killing investigations. The investigation focuses on the period 2015-2020 because many women were abused in Greece at this time and the term “femicide” began to enter into the Greek context, while in the past such crimes were considered as crimes of passion or of a psychopathological nature. The first part of the book includes a thorough bibliographic review and presents the interconnection of the phenomenon of femicide and gender inequality and violence, its global dimension as well as the strategies that are necessary to deal with it.
