Description

From conflicts zones to politics, there are many reasons why so many people searched for a better place to live. In finding the better place, the journey of Mexican immigrants and refugees has shaped a little the Canadian immigration System. The Mexican migration to Canada has a relatively short history. Unanimously, we all know that the migration of Mexicans to Canada is a new phenomenon, contrary to the Unites States but it represents one of the most significant increases in the movement of people from Latin America. Since the mid-1990s, the number of Mexicans in Canada has been growing rapidly because of the return of the descendants of Canadian Mennonites who emigrated to Mexico and the provisions of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which eases the entrance requirements for Mexican nationals. It’s also true to say that Canada has become a favorite destination for Mexican asylum seekers despite that Canada accepts their claims at an alarmingly low rate compared to those from other nations worldwide. From what we saw coming, some reasons behind the growing Mexicans immigration in Canada to claim refugee status are due to Canada’s long history of open immigration policies and especially its economic and temporary labor agreements. These policies in real time encouraged significant Mexicans nationals to choose Canada instead of the United States as we witnessed for decades.
