Description

Waste management is one of the most important environmental problems of today, because waste is disposed of in an unregulated manner, which results in the appearance of an increasing number of illegal landfills. On the territory of the Jablanica district, there are currently 81 unorganized, illegal landfills, a solid waste landfill “Donja Jajna” and a sanitary waste landfill “Željovac“. This type of waste disposal can lead to environmental problems, soil contamination and leachate generation, which affects human health. Therefore, the flow of waste and soil contamination of landfills on the territory of the city of Leskovac is analysed here. The goal is to determine the flow of waste and soil quality, detect possible contamination and identify potentially harmful materials in the tested samples. It is revealed that in many of the analysed samples, the measured pollutant concentrations exceeded the maximum permissible values. This work provides useful information on further planning of rehabilitation measures, landfill management and environmental protection.
