Description

This book investigates the manifestation of multiculturalism in media discourse, using the Sino-US trade dispute as a case study. It develops an original multicultural discourse-analytical framework that integrates theories of multiculturalism with critical discourse analysis and corpus-assisted methods, offering a systematic examination of how media from different sociopolitical contexts represent international conflicts. Through a multidimensional analysis covering thematic framing, national identity construction, intertextuality, and discursive strategies, the book compares news coverage from China Daily, The New York Times, and the South China Morning Post. The findings reveal significant differences in how these newspapers construct national identities and represent conflicting parties, which are explained with reference to media systems, national interests, and sociopolitical contexts. Given its theoretical contributions, practical implications for Chinese official media’s international communication strategies, and pedagogical value for courses in intercultural communication and journalism studies, this book will appeal to researchers in linguistics, communication studies.
