Description

Historically, violence in Nigeria has been perceived largely through the lens of inter-ethnic and religious conflicts. This image has dominated intellectual discourse in the colonial and post colonial era. The pre and post millennial age has however ushered in a unique comprehensive imaging of violence by academics in Nigeria. The interrogation of violence and it’s precursors have become more robust and eclectic in nature this has afforded a new vibrant interdisciplinary construct in understanding violence in Nigeria. This collection is one of such approaches that seeks to redefine the academic space on the subject. From weapons proliferation to the political structures that sustain violence, the book also covers collective security, military culture, Social violence, Juvenile justice and the worsening phenomenon of occupational violence within farmers and herder communities. Instigators of fake news and the conceptual understanding Nigeria’s state of insecurity are analysed in the collection. This work is a vital contribution to the growing corpus on violence in Nigeria that redefine the way we see and interpret the origins, instigators, processes and how violence is understood and imaged in Nigeria.
