The evolution of wireless sensor network (WSN) technology has given rise to a number of applications. WSNs have been primarily used for application monitoring, but they are also applicable to target tracking, healthcare, and monitoring with multimedia data. Nodes are integrated into environments where depleted sensor node batteries are difficult to charge or replace. The main objective of communication protocols in WSN networks is to maximize energy efficiency in order to extend the life of the network. A mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is a self-configuring and dynamic network in which the mobile node is connected by wireless links whose union forms an arbitrary graph. Such a network does not require a fixed infrastructure and represents an interesting option for spontaneously connecting mobile terminals. However, this type of network is particularly vulnerable, particularly at the network layer level, to attacks targeting the availability of services. Traditional security mechanisms based on a fixed infrastructure are not suitable. In this bibliography report, we present a review of new ad hoc network routing protocols to support availability. It is therefore an analysis of the specifications of the protocol in terms of availability in order to be able to propose an availability policy applicable within the framework of this type of network. In this book, various media access control (MAC) protocols for synchronous / asynchronous and single / multi-channel WSNs are established. Single-channel MAC protocols are classified into synchronous and asynchronous approaches, and the pros and cons of each protocol are elaborated. The different functionalities required in the multichannel WSN versus the single channel WSN are also explored, and surveys of the multichannel MAC protocols offered for WSNs are provided. Next, broadcast schemes existing in these MAC protocols and proposed multi-hop broadcast protocols for WSNs are provided. The limitations and challenges of many communication protocols according to this survey are highlighted, which facilitates future research on the design of communication protocols for WSN networks.
