Description

Addiction is a social phenomenon that is steadily increasing around the world, and its harm is no longer just a problem for individuals. It is now dealt with as a problem at a societal level, encompassing families and the environments surrounding those with addictions. In general, addiction refers to abuse of alcohol or drugs, including narcotics, and symptoms that show mental or behavioral dependence (Cho et al., 2011). The problem of addiction in four areas, namely alcohol, drugs, gambling, and media contents, has recently become a serious social problem in Korea. There is evidence that the harm caused by these four types of addiction is increasing, but the interventions in the national and policy level are not sufficient in light of the seriousness of the situation.
