This book proposes a broadening of the application of Christian mission concept for all denominations in Nigeria. Specific focus is however on the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Nigeria. The traditional understanding which confines mission to the transmission of the personal gospel to other cultures has not allowed the power of the gospel to achieve its maximum capacity in bringing change and development to the country. Nigeria has faced various challenges such as political instability, insecurity, corruption and extreme poverty. Various administrations and political leadership over time have made policies geared towards development, but these have not made significant impact. The argument of this book is that the secular approaches to development in Nigeria have been narrow. Development agencies, governmental, non-governmental, local and international mostly focus on policies directed at material and physical wellbeing of Nigerians. However, only holistic approach to development will work. Such view development from all sides, material and spiritual. Nigeria’s development challenges are manifestations of the distorted image of God in humans.
