Description

The conflict in Borno State, Nigeria, has severely impacted fish farming, leading to a decline in production, income, and food security. This study explores the potential of fish farming for peacebuilding and sustainable livelihoods, examining its impact, potentials, and strategies for leverage. Using a mixed-methods approach, the study finds that fish farming can contribute to social cohesion, economic recovery, and improved nutrition, generating an estimated profit of N374,506,326.4 per annum with a recovery period of other costs excluding personnel costs approximately in 1.9 years, while including personnel costs recoverable in 3 years. The study recommends supporting infrastructure development, community-based initiatives, and partnerships, and prioritizing youth empowerment. The findings suggest that fish farming can be a viable and profitable venture for peacebuilding and sustainable livelihoods in Borno State, Nigeria.
