Description

The purpose of this research is to clarify the changes in gardeners in the Komagome area. We focused on the farmland and farmers’ houses within the range of the illustration from the contents described in the ‘Ansei period Komagome Fuji Shrine area map and illustration’, and the material of the Edo period. ‘Ansei period map and illustration’ is three materials of the cultural property designated by Bunkyo Ward.

1.Most of the farmers in this area also work as gardeners.
2.Many farmers (townspeople) with the surname Takagi, as seen from the Ansei period pictorial map, already owned the lands in several distant places. A part of these were inherited until the Taisho era, and those with the surnames ‘Utsumi’, Shimizu’, and ‘Ito’ also owned the lands in several distant places. Furthermore, Takagi, Utsumi, and Shimizu were confirmed from the documents of the Edo period as families of descendants of Shimo-Komagome Village.
3.From the address on the land registration map of the Taisho era, several locations are matched by the farmers’ houses on the Ansei period map.
