The work targets the effect of aflatoxin on reproductive physiology among rabbits that have been found to cause reduced fertility and the overall rabbit meat production. Recent animal studies showed aflatoxins’ direct effects on reproduction causing toxicity among both male and female rabbits particularly their damaging effects on gametes, particularly the growth and development of follicles and their maturation into ovaries. Among the female rabbits, aflatoxin diminishes fertility of oocytes by disrupting their maturation by way of epigenetic modification and cause oxidative stress, high autophagy and apoptosis. The work looks at the conditions under which aflatoxin flourishes and the chemical changes it cause through to be lethal to rabbit reproductive health. The work likewise looks into the aflatoxin effect on the production of cholestoral, a precusor for the synthesis of steroid hormones which are crucial for the secretion of reproductive hormones.

The work is also expected to show how Aflatoxins cause histological damage to organs involved in reproduction and reproductive hormone levels.
