The book focuses on designing a remote learning system to improve the teaching and learning of Computer Studies for Grade 9 learners at Chisamba Day Secondary School in Zambia.
The study begins from the concern that Computer Studies has continued to record poor performance, both in Zambia and in other African countries. The thesis identifies several causes of this problem, including shortage of trained teachers, inadequate learning materials, overcrowded classrooms, poor learner attitudes towards the subject, weak background knowledge from primary school, and limited opportunities for practice outside class. Many learners depend only on classroom notes and cannot study independently when the teacher is absent or when books are not available.
To respond to this challenge, the researcher proposed a web-based remote learning application specifically designed for Grade 9 Computer Studies. The main purpose of the system is to support both teachers and learners. For teachers, the system is intended to make lesson preparation easier by providing updated syllabus content, lesson planning support, templates, teaching materials, and tools for evaluation.
