Effect of Domestic Violence on Women’s Participation in Agricultural Activities in Ekiti State, Nigeria

This book examines how domestic violence affects women’s participation in agricultural activities in Ekiti State, Nigeria. Using data from 90 women selected through a multi-stage sampling technique, the study applies descriptive statistics, logistic regression, and probit regression to identify the forms, determinants, and effects of domestic violence on agricultural engagement. Findings reveal that emotional violence is the most prevalent form, followed by physical, economic, and sexual violence. Age, education, occupation, substance abuse, economic dependence, and financial stress significantly influence women’s vulnerability to domestic violence. The study further demonstrates that exposure to physical, emotional, and sexual violence significantly reduces women’s participation and productivity in agriculture, while education enhances their involvement. It concludes that domestic violence is not only a human rights and public health issue but also a major constraint to agricultural productivity, food security, and rural development.
