This book argues for the significance of Digital Technology (DT) in higher education EFL academic writing development, with a specific focus on offline, self-compiled corpus exploitation using AntConc (version 4.0.11.0). It provides practical evidence of how EFL learners use authentic language sources through AntConc to support genre-specific academic writing instruction and learner development. The book details how tailored corpora can be prepared from professionally written quality texts—such as International English Language Testing Standards test-taker responses—and how these corpora are then used to guide instruction.
In classrooms, learners apply the self-compiled corpora and model printouts to develop key academic writing sub-skills: grammar accuracy and range, task achievement, lexical resources, and coherence and cohesion. It shows how this instructional design integrates the Teaching–Learning Cycle model with principles from Data-Driven Learning and Activity Theory. The book also shows that corpus-based instruction can support both inductive and deductive approaches in autonomous or collaborative learning settings.
