Description

This insightful book explores the intersection of sustainability, urban design, and pedestrian comfort, offering a detailed case study centered on Dubai—a city renowned for its modern infrastructure yet faced with challenges posed by extreme summer temperatures. The research addresses the importance of walkability as a cornerstone for sustainable urban development, emphasizing its multifaceted benefits for social, economic, and environmental well-being.
Despite Dubai’s advanced infrastructure and robust public transit systems, walkability has often been sidelined due to the harsh climatic conditions. This study seeks to address this gap by focusing on strategies to mitigate high air temperatures and maximize outdoor usability, thus enhancing the overall pedestrian experience in the city’s public spaces.
The researcher specifically examines Dubai’s City Walk area, a vibrant urban district characterized by its open spaces and potential for walkability. A four-phase research approach was adopted to identify, analyze, and implement strategies aimed at achieving thermal comfort on a micro-scale. By leveraging Envi-Met 5.5 software for detailed simulations.
