The events, described in the book, took place 26 years ago, in an ancient city, called Nevis.
One autumn morning, a young actress Victoria Civil, with her two-year-old dog Bobby, goes for a walk, along one of the oldest streets of the city, called Liven. During this walk, they discover the lifeless body of a 30-year-old girl, in a dilapidated house at 19/591 Liven. Victoria immediately calls the police. The police and a forensic expert arrive at the scene and state that the girl died five minutes before midnight from cardiac arrest.
