The volume consists of two parts. The first, more extensive part contains the author’s thoughts and impressions—unordered in content and of varying weight—on various topics. In some, one can detect echoes of important social issues or recurring theoretical disputes and suggested resolutions. Others are merely brief comments on mundane events or fleeting experiences. The second part of the collection, “Characters”, is different, more psychological and homogeneous. These are sparingly sketched, individual character traits (sometimes very vivid), observed in specific people. And although they are inspired by the behavior of individual people, one can expect that they also apply to many others whom the author has never met and knows nothing about. It is very possible that the reader will recognize many of their own acquaintances there.
