The aesthetics of conflict: an intertextual approach to Shakespeare’s King Lear, The Tempest and Bond’s Lear and The Sea is a book about the deft use of conflicts as a medium of dramatic expression by William Shakespeare and Edward Bond. Through a study of the similarities and differences that exist between King Lear and Lear and between The Tempest and The Sea, the book highlights the intertextual relationships of hypotext and hypertext that bind Shakespeare’s and Edward Bond’s plays. Through structuralism, the book sheds lights on the evidence that both playwrights made conflicts carry social, political and psychological meaning to their readerships and theatre audiences.
