Neurophysiological Mechanisms of Tremor

This work examines the neurophysiological mechanisms of tremor as a complex rhythmic motor phenomenon reflecting the functional state of the central and autonomic nervous systems. Physiological and pathological tremor, its frequency and amplitude characteristics, interhemispheric asymmetry, and its relations hip with individual-typological and psychophysiological characteristics are investigated. The study is based on tremorography and electroencephalography […]

Description

This work examines the neurophysiological mechanisms of tremor as a complex rhythmic motor phenomenon reflecting the functional state of the central and autonomic nervous systems. Physiological and pathological tremor, its frequency and amplitude characteristics, interhemispheric asymmetry, and its relations hip with individual-typological and psychophysiological characteristics are investigated.

The study is based on tremorography and electroencephalography (EEG), as well as methods of systems analysis, multiple regression, and polycyclic multigraphs. The relationships between tremorogram parameters and EEG characteristics are analyzed, and tremor is considered as a result of the interaction of several oscillatory systems and generators.

Particular attention is given to the characteristics of tremor in patients with schizophrenia. Increased tremor amplitude and frequency compared with the control group, pronounced interhemispheric asymmetry, and a more complex structure of regression relationships were observed. The potential use of tremorography for the objective assessment of the functional state of the central nervous system is considered.
