Mandibular third molar extractions are among the most common dental procedures in Mali, yet little is known about the experiences and decisions behind them. This book explores the perspectives of both patients and clinicians at CHU OS Bamako, revealing how pain, financial limitations, fear, and cultural beliefs shape care-seeking behaviors and treatment choices. Through qualitative research, it highlights a strong reliance on tooth extraction, often preferred over conservative management due to limited awareness, inadequate diagnostic resources, and systemic constraints. The findings uncover critical gaps in oral health knowledge, restricted access to radiographic services, and routine clinical practices influenced by resource availability. Patients frequently delay seeking care until symptoms become severe, while clinicians navigate complex challenges in delivering optimal treatment. This work emphasizes the need for improved oral health education, better diagnostic capacity, and more sustainable, evidence-based approaches. It offers valuable insights for policymakers, practitioners, and researchers aiming to enhance oral healthcare outcomes in resource-limited settings.
