The Inexplicable Man

Who is Man? The answer varies depending on scientific discoveries. For the Greeks, Man contained a particle of the World Soul. In the Middle Ages, Man was the creature of God. Copernicus’s discovery in 1513 caused an earthquake among philosophers, with a 70-year delay. This explains why the 17th century was very rich in diverse philosophies, with R. Descartes and B. Spinoza as leaders. In 1687, A. Newton published the law of Universal Gravitation. This caused a new crash. A new philosophy resulted with I. Kant in 1787, and Voltaire in 1769, a century later. In 1861, the doctor A. Broca demonstrated that language depended on a specific area of the brain. Philosophy was losing an indispensable foundation: the creation of language by Reason. A new philosophy appeared in 1913, due to E.Husserl, its main work called Phenomenology. Philosophy is no longer concerned with thoughts but with actions. But in 1953, British researchers F. Crick and J. Watson described the DNA molecule that holds the genetic code of all living beings. The entirety of Man is found in a giant molecule. The question of the Essence of Man is raised once again.
