Description

In this writing entitled ‘’Social Protest Fiction and the Quest for a New  Black Identity, Jeannot DJASSENE bases his analysis on the way racism constructs and deconstructs the characters’ identities in the selected novels. He demonstrates to what extent Twain’s, Wright’s and Morrison’s selected works are social protest novels. In Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Black Boy, The Bluest Eye and Tar Baby, whiteness is associated with beauty. Displacement in the selected novels are mentioned to show the fact that emotional attachments to human beings can prevent individual’s separation from society’s orders and execution of violent desires. The narrator throughout his analysis states that racism relates to racial discrimination, based on prejudice, violence, dislike and oppression. He focuses on American literary devices such as, metaphor, simile, and personification to make clear the three authors’ philosophy. The last section of this study lays emphasis on American short review of literature. This review informs that the theme of identity is remarkable and discussed by various thinkers in America.
