This book surveys recent advances in the visible-light-induced synthesis of tetrahydroquinolines and quinolines through formal [4 + 2] cycloaddition strategies. Particular emphasis is placed on Povarov-type reactions involving readily available aromatic amines, aldehydes, and alkenes or alkynes, as well as related photocatalytic transformations, including the oxidative annulation of tertiary amines with maleimides. The book provides […]

The book provides a concise and comprehensive account of visible-light-driven Povarov and related reactions, highlighting their potential for constructing structurally diverse and biologically relevant quinoline architectures. The discussion is organized into three principal groups: (i) simple substituted (tetrahydro)quinolines, (ii) tricyclic quinolines, and (iii) diverse polycyclic quinolines with alkaloid-like architectures. Both metal-based and metal-free photocatalytic approaches are discussed, with comparisons to conventional Povarov reactions where appropriate.
This book will be valuable to researchers in organic synthesis, medicinal chemistry, and photocatalysis.
