This book examined the effect of sea piracy on maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea with cursory look at the security challenges of piracy from 1999 – 2018. The study specifically ascertained the extent to which illegal acts of violence and detention have influenced the maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea. Determined the extent to which voluntary participation in the operation of a ship has influenced the maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea and ascertained the extent to which negligence on the part of security apparatus has influenced the maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea. The researcher explored mainly the secondary sources of data which were obtained from relevant institutions like the Wikipedia, ICC, UNCLOS, Ocean Beyond Piracy, the works of Onuoha, F.C., International Maritime Bureau (IBM), International Maritime Organisation among others, besides institutional and official documents, the study was based on other secondary sources of data such as books, journal articles, conference papers, Magazines / Newspapers and internet materials.
