This book is a practical guide for social accountability stakeholders, mostly Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and the Mass Media, on how they can effectively use the media in promoting and monitoring the implementation of development programmes. Social accountability is a bottom up initiative where the rights holders follow up on services promised and provided by service providers.  The book is divided into two parts. Part I presents practical media activities that CSOs and international development organisations can engage in on their own. Part II is about the training of journalism professionals to become effective partners. A university level academic training programme is proposed.
