This book interrogates the United Nations missions interventions into Somalia with a focus on the perceptions of the Somali immigrants in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. The Somali conflict, concept of intervention and liberal peace is examined amongst related issues. The units of analysis include: the Somali refugees in Port Elizabeth and United Nations intervention missions in Somalia named: United Nations Operations in Somalia one (UNOSOM ONE), United Nations Operations in Somalia two (UNOSOM TWO) and Unified Task force (UNITAF). Focus group interviews were used to collect data during the study. To analyse data, the researcher adopted the grounded theory approach by Corbin and Strauss (1990:5). Thus, data collection and analysis was a continuous process throughout the study and follow up focus group interviews were also carried out during the write up process.
