Description

The book highlighting the importance of transport towards the country’s economy; importance of roads towards the transport system, explaining the difference between e-toll roads and non-e-toll roads. This study considers the following variables, namely e-toll charges, attitude towards e-tolling, e-toll compliance, customer trust of e-tolls and e-toll use continuation. A quantitative approach was adopted in which a survey questionnaire was used to collect data from 350 road users in the Gauteng province. A non-probability purposive sampling technique to select respondents was used. Data were analysed with the aid of two software packages, namely the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), version 24.0, and the Analysis of Moment Structures (AMOS), version 24.0. A confirmatory factor analysis was applied in examining and testing the relationships between observed constructs and their causal latent constructs, while structural equation modelling was used to test the hypothesised relationships between constructs. The study anticipated that e-toll charges have a significant influence on the attitude towards e-tolls and attitude towards e-tolls has a significant influence on the e-toll compliance and the customer trust of e-tolls. E-toll compliance and customer trust of e-tolls have a significant influence on the e-toll use continuation. The results of this study provide useful information on the funding of the roads in Gauteng province (South Africa).
