Job of an Interpreter is based on author’s personal experiences in a camp with the illegal immigrants stranded in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The novel is designed around six characters, the refugees of various different national backgrounds. The unnamed interpreter, who happens to be a university professor of Shakespearean drama, relates his own life with the immigrants’ plight and sees them in the mirror of Shakespearean drama. Psychologically wrecked, he loses the sense of distinction between the ‘normal’ worlds outside and the distorted one inside the camp. The novella urges the people to wake up before we all become refugees in a world where shadows of insecurity are becoming dense with every passing moment.
