Description

The book offers a sketch of the most relevant results arising from the crisis of reductionism in different scientific disciplines. It deals with some of the more studied problems in the contemporary scientific literature: complexity, information theory, fractals, cellular automata and their applications in modeling organs of living beings, like a human heart external structure. The author proposes an intriguing comparison between the Aristotelian-Thomistic notion of “form” and that of “information” as it is presented in today’s scientific approaches. It is shown how information is always needed to drive change toward ordered organized structures, both in non-living and living systems. In the last chapter, the fascinating problem of intelligence (natural and artificial) in cognitive sciences and self-awareness is presented in tight comparison with Aristotle and Thomas Aquinas.
