Description

Studies on the use of Wild Spikenard (Hyptis suaveolens L. Poit) for the control of groundnut bruchid, Caryedon serratus Olivier on stored shelled groundnut seeds and tamarind whole pods was carried out in the Laboratory and at the Teaching and Research Farm of Department of Agricultural Technology, Adamawa State College of Agriculture, Ganye, Adamawa State. Phytochemical analysis of H. suaveolens whole powder was conducted in the Laboratory of Department of Chemistry, Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola, Adamawa State, Nigeria in 2015. The study determined the phytochemicals present in H. suaveolens whole powder, evaluated its insecticidal potentials for the control of C. serratus and suggested favourable dosage of application of the power. The experimental designs used were the Completely Randomized Design and Randomized Complete Block Design. Data were taken on mean percentage damage, undamaged, mortality, number of eggs laid, adults alive, weight loss and mean percentage establishment. Phytochemical analysis revealed the presence of constituents like phenols, tannins, flavonoids, glycosides, alkaloids, aldehydes and ketones.
